[EVOLUTION - 01] Concept by NMac1983 [EVOLUTION - 01] Concept by NMac1983
Working on a new CyberSally pic, this is just a speed paint concept of a new design for her.

Basically the idea i've got for a story behind the illustration is this:

Despite the best efforts of the resistance to clean up the planet after Robotnik had been vanquished, the damage to the ecosystem had been done. The planet was dying. In a strange twist the survivors, now with dwindling resources and no way to sustain their society in it's present form, turned away from rebuilding their former world and instead focused on the very technology they had come to fear: Roboticization.

Created by the greatest villian Mobius had ever seen, many of the survivors saw no alternative but to use a modified version of the technology to adapt themselves into something that could survive the wasteland that they now found themselves in.

After almost nine centuries, Sally Acorn, one of only a few hundred remaining survivors, wanders through the ruins of her former world, utterly alone, seeking one energy source after another. All that she once held dear now faded images on an electronic memory.

The remade child of legacy.

It's still in the rough stages. But your thoughts are welcome.

phenomenal, absolutely breath taking. And you say this is "just a speed painting concept?" Mad skill.

I wanted to tilt her design to a slightly more organic looking tech: something that's evolved with her over the centuries, rather than having simply been 'upgraded' to.

And I can't (off the top of my head) think of any movies that follow the same vein. I have a habit of forgetting names of movies and simply remembering designs, styles or the general jist of the film.

While life on Mobius dies the Human/Mobian colony on Alpha Centuri thrives! Perhaps one day the colonists of Alpha Centuri will return to restore Mob... Earth, and when that day comes we will obliterate the technological horrors that destroyed our beautiful planet. LONG LIVE EARTH AND THE HUMAN/MOBIAN ALLIANCE!!!

Given enough time, the Robians may make it beautiful once more, on their own. And you may find that they are no longer the horrors you imagined.

True, but would they know what to do? I see how this disaster could theoretically be fixed, but it's your story so it's your call on what happens.

Incredible idea. I must ask if any other important characters survived the ecosystem collapse.

Sally sure, but who else? I'm really glad she finally got to take a level in kicking bot... make that several centuries of levels.

Siphoning from long destroyed units from Robotnik's former army should do the trick. Constant salvage might grant actual power instead of basic survival.

Thanks, i try to add a bit more to the story every time i submit a Sally picture.

I guess you could call all the Sally pictures i've done so far a 'half-assed' graphic novel. I really should take a seat and get all of this written down, maybe then a can do more with it.

But anyways, thanks for the feedback.

Firstly sorry I haven't been commenting as often as I should so sorry ^^;

Its refreshing to see a new concept of a much beloved character... I love the detail in the structure of Sally's face plus not sure if it is the case but her eyes seem so lonely, so sad yet can't really look away truly a brilliant peice of art ^^

Firstly, we all have lives to lead so no worries. I've been going mad as a hatter the last few weeks moving house.

I've got a bit of a storyline going with this new design, When i find the time i'll hopefully be able to flesh it out. But yes she does look quite melancholy.

Cheers. :)

900 years, no wonder it's all just ghosts to her. I suppose she should be happy she can remember her name.

I'm sad to see it all degenerate to this. It's totally tragic.

But I refuse to believe in the no win scenario.

Sally still has her two hands, and a mind that can think and imagine. That's all she truly needs to bring order and happiness back to her fellow survivors.

I've never said in was a no win senario.

It's just a matter of waiting for the world to heal. Nature always finds a way. The time scales are just much bigger than we're used to.

Tragedy is what i'm after in these illustrations. Tragedy and change. It takes time, and is usually hard but it does happen in the end.

Or to make the world into a paradise for sentient machine rather than animal and plants.

Hmmm. Taking both of you're previous comments into account, it seems i need to figure out what has happened between the Robians robotocizing themselves and the existence Sally now finds herself in.

Maybe the Robians already did make a paradise, a machine utopia. But the funny thing about utopias, at least from all the stories i've read, is that they're enforced or there is at least some catch or twist that in turn breeds dissidence. Maybe a golden age has come and gone, maybe Sally's memory loss is not just the effects of time. Maybe after Robotnik's demise the common goal that united all of the freedom fighters vanished as well, and the utopia, after a period, fell prey to the fact that everyone had their own ideas of what that paradise should be. Conflict and war were likely to follow. It's a pattern that seems to repeat itself over and over again in the real world. Well, maybe not as clear cut as that, but everyone naturally tries to impose their own views over the views of others.

A lot can happen in 9 centuries.

By the way, thanks for all this feedback. It's cracking stuff! :)

" i've read, is that they're enforced"

A society without rules is just a school of fish, and a without penalties for breaking those rules, you lose half of encouragement. Look at what happened with communism!

Perhaps Sally was too scared of becoming like Robonik to bring down the hammer when it needed to be brought down to bring her fellow machines in line to obey as -machines- should.

And Sally, having fought her entire life for the freedom of mobians to have their own choices, didn't realize that unless an individual is willing to let part of the individual die, then the whole can not live. That's what the sense of unity from culture IS! Sally would violently reject these answers thinking that all the opposing pieces would fit together ON THEIR OWN.

It's also possible that while they kept their freedom of will and emotions, they tried TOO HARD to continue life as was, not realizing that their new existence as machines would require them to adjust their culture, which they might violently refused to do even though it could no longer function the way it had when they were flesh and blood.

And yes, everyone DOES try to impose their own views, it's human nature, we'd be living in cubicles typing to each other if we didn't.

And 9 is a good movie comparison to this since the nine rag dolls have to figure out how to survive after the end of the age of man.

Some wars are fought over ideology, others are fought over resources.

The ultimate joke is that robians perhaps CAN reproduce (since the robotocizer was supposed to make a techno twin to ALL their internal organs) but THINK they can't, so they don't.

Ahhh! Now there's a tragedy.

Robotnik uses Chuck's roboticizer technology to turn Mobians into Robotic slaves. Sally and the freedom fighters vanquish Robotnik only to discover their world's ecosystem is beyond repair. Remaining Mobians use a modified Roboticizer technology to transform their species into intelligent, emotionally adept, machines. The utopia that is raised reigns for a time, all is well. Dissidence begins to spread, conflict erupts. Sally, a leader figure, is unable to resolve the conflict with peaceful means. She is then faced with the dilemma of choosing between taking away her people's free will by using violence to maintain order, or letting them choose in a more democratic way. Out of fear that she would become like Robotnik Sally's morals let them choose. The resulting choice leads to a massive social schism, war ensues. With no government left, society dissolves and life degenerates. Sally roams the wasteland with a guilty conscience, believing that her fear of becoming too much like Robotnik caused the world to fall apart. Had she used more aggressive and immoral means, then the world may still have been at peace.

Well, something along those lines.

The sense of irony would be profound.

So we've been looking at sally slowly loose all of her organic parts in a progression for 3 or 4 pics now. At this point, is she 90-95% robot? or is she the type of being like "ghost in the shell" where they are 100% robotic, but still have the "ghost" which makes them unique?

The challenge is getting enough crazy survivalist robians who might just be out for keeping themselves functional for one more day under her sway and control to get it built in the first place.

This might force Sally to assume the role of benign dictator and do what she knows is wrong but also is necessary. In this case it might involve reprogramming enough robians who have all gone nuts from the choice they had to make in the first place: and give them the absolute sense of PURPOSE and LOYALTY that machines ideally have.
